Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies IIR

CCIRS

CCIRS (Programme: EU India Action Plan Support Facility, ASIE/2009/215-062, Centre for Contemporary India Reserach and Studies). The value of the grant is 270 00 euro. Institute is a leader of the project and main coordinator.

The Project lasted from 2010, January till 2011, December.

Despite the end of the project Institute cooperate very active with Indian partners. One of the result of the project was creation in the Institute research centre, Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies.

The Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies is an innovative and interdisciplinary centre of excellence at the Institute of International Relations, University of Warsaw, based on cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme, University of Hyderabad, Jawaharlal Nehru University and other 14 European and 8 Indian universities and highly specialized institutes.

Research and academic profile

The Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies is the project funded by the EU aimed at strengthening knowledge about contemporary Indian business and politics. Its mission is to:

  • enhance knowledge concerning contemporary India in the EU, particularly in the economic, political, development, social and cultural dimension;
  • strengthen mutual relations and gradually developing a closer partnership between the EU and India, based on common values, interests and responsibilities;
  • provide outstanding, interdisciplinary and highly specialized education, designed for excellent students. It will ensure active and professional participation of governments and private institutions from India and the EU. The Centre will promote advanced education (MA programme; in the future innovative curricula for PhD studies) and interdisciplinary methods in research and studies regarding contemporary India;
  • be a platform for cooperation between European and Indian Scholars, business elites entrepreneurs, NGOs, public administration, media;

Results of the project

During two years of the project all the aims were full field. Realization of project in had multilevel and interdisciplinary character. The purpose of activity of CCIRS  was to dissemination knowledge about contemporary India in Poland and other countries of EU and to create network between Indian and European scholars. Another aim was to create frame of cooperation between scientific environment form India and Europe and representatives of public administration (especially governmental), business and non-government organization.

  • MA Program in Contemporary India Business and Politics taught in the Institute of International RElations:

    • in English from October 2013

    Each book will contain 20 articles and will be published by Routledge Taylor & Francis Group

  • Conferences and seminars (in period of 2010-2012 there were 20 international conferences, 40 seminars and guest lectures)
  • Students Exchange (40 students from Warsaw will start exchange programme since August 2012)

Students Exchange:

  • from February till May 2012 first two students from IIR UW went to JNU for exchange program
  • In academic year 2012/2013,nearly 40 students will go to India to study for one semester to: JNU, University of Calcutta, TATA Institute of Social Science, University of Mumbai, Manipal University, Tribhuvan University and Global Collage International
  • in February 2012 for four months research to IIR UW came student from Manipal University (Ashwath Puttur)
  • in March, for two weeks research came PhD student from JNU (Vinod Kumar Yadaw)
  • in October 2012 will come to IIR UW student (Ahana Banerjee) from University of Calcutta for three months research.
