European Association of India Study Centres (EAISC)

Genesis

On 21-22 November 2011 an international conference was held in New Delhi, organised by the EU-India Study Centres Programme and European Commission. During the conference, the European Association of India Study Centres (EAISC) was established. It comprises EU research centres focusing on contemporary Indian issues. One of the founding members of the Association is the Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies at the Institute of International Relations, University of Warsaw. Dr Jakub Zajączkowski was elected first president of EAISC.

EAISC

The conference was attended by representatives of Indian and EU research centres, the European Commission, Indian government institutions responsible for higher education, the Polish Embassy in India, as well as other embassies.  The University of Warsaw was represented by: Prof. Janusz Adamowski, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science and  Dr Jakub Zajączkowski, Institute of International Relations.

Aim:

The objectives of the EAISC are:

(1) the enhancement and promotion of Indo-European Academic Relations

(2) the establishment of a European academic network serving that purpose

(3) the achievement of synergy effects in research, teaching, administration, exchange of personnel, curricular planning and funding

(4) the representation of common interests vis-à-vis the European Union

(5) specifically the cooperation with Indian Institutions of Higher Education focussing on European Studies.

Activity and Results

First Board Meeting of European Association of India Study Centres

First Board Meeting of EAISC took place at University of Warsaw, March 22-25th 2012. In meeting took part:

  • Dr Jakub Zajączkowski (Chairperson, Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies, Institute of International Relations  university of Warsaw)
  • Prof. Donatella Dolcini (Department of Contemporary languages and Cultures (Hindi Language and  Indian Culture, University of Milan, Italy)
  • Prof. Hans G. Jansen (Head of India Study Centre, Hochschule Bremen, University of Applied Sciences, Germany)
  • Dr Uwe Skoda (Chairperson, Contemporary India Study Centre Arhus, Arhus University, Denmark).

During the meeting scholars discussed:

  • activity plan of Centres
  • MA in India Studies (Presentation of MA in India Studies by Centres)
  • Joint Master Programme
  • exchange of professors and students
  • Mundus Action 2

During the meeting it was accepted Warsaw Declaration, in which partners underlined will to strengthen cooperation

Second Board Meeting of European Association of India Study Centres

Second Board Meeting of European Association of India Study Centres took place in Banasthali (India), April 4th 2013. In the meeting took part:

Erasmus Mundus Project

EAISC was a part of consortium which successfully obtain Ersmus Mundus project. Institute of International Relations and Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies IIR University of Warsaw won prestigious grant in Programme: Erasmus Mundus (Sub-Programme: Erasmus Mundus Partnerships in Action 2, Strand 1). Project title: Interdisciplinary Bridges in Indo-European Studies (UNIES). Coordinators of the project are: Aarhus University, Denmark and IIT Madras, India. Since spring 2013 scholars and students from consortium have visited Institute of International Relations University of Warsaw.
