International Cooperation, Projects & Networks

Institute has worldwide research cooperation, including over 90 LLP Erasmus agreements with universities in almost all EU countries. Institute has 15 agreements with Indian universities. Till now it has sent to India 40 students in the frame of exchange. Institute has also 3 agreements with the Chinese universities and 3 with Russian Higher Education Institutions.

Moreover Institute has bilateral agreements with university in the United States (sending to U.S. about 10 students per year). Institute cooperates also with universities in Mexico, South Korea, Kosovo, Nepal. IIR has started the joint diploma programme with Global College International, Nepal. Students and scholars of IIR could also have research visit and study in the frame of University of Warsaw agreements with universities in United States (Indiana University) and in Canada (University of British Columbia, University of Ottawa).

In the frame of cooperation between the Institute and the European and worldwide partners every year Institute is visited by 15-10 scholars from EU, Asia, Latin America, United States.

In recent years (2010-2013) Institute has organized with the partner universities over 40 international conferences and seminars.

LLP Erasmus Agreement

  • The Institute has over 90 LLP Erasmus Agreement in almost all EU countries
  • Every year over 10 academic staff from partners’ universities visit the Institute and over 20 academic staff from the Institute teach abroad within the framework of LLP Erasmus
  • Every year the Institute sends over 100 students and hosts over 100 international students

Joint MA and BA Programmes in IR with Kathmandu, Nepal

IIR is jointly running MA and BA Programmes in International,Relations with Global College International in Kathmandu, Nepal where students pursue first year courses in Nepal and complete the remaining courses in Warsaw and obtain MA and BA diploma in IR of University of Warsaw.

Joint Master and Bachelor Programmes with Pristhina, Kosovo

IIR is jointly running MA and BA Programmes in International,Relations with University for Business and Technology, Prishtina, Kosovo. Students could attend all modules in Kosovo or they may pursue the first year modules in Kosovo, and complete the programme in Warsaw. On graduation they obtain their diploma from the University of Warsaw

Centres for Polish and Central Eur. Studies in Kolkata and Manipal

The Institute of International Relations of the University of Warsaw (IIR UW), the Centre for Europe at the University of Warsaw (CE UW) and the Polish Association for International Studies (PAIS), in cooperation with the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have established the Centres for Polish and Central European Studies at the Manipal University and the University of Calcutta.

As part of the joint project of the IIR UW, the CE UW, the PAIS and their Indian partners (the Department of Geopolitics and International Relations, Manipal University, and the Institute of Foreign Policy Studies, University of Calcutta), from the academic year 2013/2014 these two Indian universities will open courses devoted to the subject of economic transformation, foreign policy and security of Poland and international relations in Central Europe. The courses will be conducted by Polish researchers. Moreover, the project partners will organize joint seminars and conferences concerning the relations between Poland and India, including economic and cultural cooperation. The aim of the Centres is to promote Poland and to create a platform of cooperation for Polish and Indian researchers, entrepreneurs and students. The project is supported by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Polish Embassy in India and the Polish Institute in New Delhi.

International Projects and Networks

Institute of International Relations takes part in several EU funded projects (7th Framework Programme, India-EU Programme, etc.) and international projects. Institute co-operated in these projects with universities from EU, India, China. In the period of 2010-2013 the Institute of International Relations organized and co-organized 20 international conferences, 40 seminars and 30 guest lectures. Institute organized these conferences and seminars with European, Asian and American partners. Institute takes part actively in worldwide research networks.

EU funded projects

  • Programme: Leonardo da Vinci (Transfer of Innovation), Increase of EU’s economic potential in relations with China, value of the grant: 255 507 euro
  • Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies (Programme: EU India Action Plan Support Facility, ASIE/2009/215-062; Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies). The value of the grant is 270 000 euro. The Institute is leader and main coordinator of the project.
  • IIR UW is a part of research consortium won the prestigious EU grant under the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7). The implementation of the project (No. 295060) entitled the India-EU Joint House for Science and Innovation began on 1 February 2012. The value of the grant is 519 000 euro.
  • IIR UW is a part of research consortium which has won the prestigious EU grant under the Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7 – Marie Curie), entitled (Post-USSR) Tensions. The aim of the project: an interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral doctoral programme to create the next generation of experts on post-Soviet affairs. Leader of the project is Dublin City University
  • The Institute is part of the Network on Humanitarian Assistance (NOHA), which is supported by the EU. NOHAis the network of universities dealing with the developmentof Humanitarian Action Education
  • TUNING – Academic staff from the Institute of International Relations were invited to participate in the TUNING Project, supported by the European Commission. The main objective was to contribute to the elaboration of a framework of comparable and compatible qualifications in the signatory countries of the EU Bologna process
  • Since July 2012 Institute of International Relations and Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies IIR University of Warsaw is a part of Indo-European research consortium which won grant in Programme: Erasmus Mundus (Sub-Programme: Erasmus Mundus Partnerships in Action 2, Strand 1). Project title: Interdisciplinary Bridgies in Indo-European Studies (IBIES). Coordinators of the project are: Aarhus University from Denmark and IIT Madras, India

Institute is a part of:

  • the European University Centre at Peking University, one of the highest ranked university in China (main coordinator is Lund University)
  • the EU Non-Proliferation Consortium, which is a network supported by the EU bringing together foreign policy institutions and research centres from across the EU.
